Social media has become increasingly popular in the last 10 years. While some may view social media as a hobby, nowadays it’s actually crucial for businesses to have a social presence.

Everyone uses social media differently depending on your business, but is your social media strategy working for you? Some businesses use social media to sell products and services, while some use it to offer useful information and customer service to its users.  What approach are you taking to reach the goals you’ve set? Below are some basic social media management tools to help you best utilize social media for your business.

Listen to your audience. Especially if you’re selling a product or service. It’s important to listen to what your audience wants to see and hear. Make sure you have a balance of sales posts and non-sales engaging posts. Directly asking for sales isn’t the approach to use in social media marketing.

Focus on your brand. Making sure your social presence is on the right platform is very important. Facebook is the best platform for brand awareness due to its wide audience. LinkedIn works best for a business to business approach, while retailers would benefit from Instagram since it’s an image based platform.

Have time and patience. Growing a social media audience doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time and patience. Monitoring your social platforms daily and interacting with users is a great way to get a start on growing your audience.

Acknowledge your audience. Always acknowledge your audience by responding to comments, new followers and reviews. This can sometimes be a tricky one when the comment is negative, but it’s mostly important to respond to those negative comments immediately. People use social media as a way to get a quicker response rather than having to call and be put on hold or emailing and waiting days for a response. You have the opportunity to provide customer service in just minutes with social media.
