Everything You Missed at Our Mobile-First Advantage Webinar

July 15, 2025

By Deniesha Ann Carter, PR & Comms Intern

Here at ABC Fitness, we recently hosted a webinar – The Mobile-First Advantage: Expanding Your Tech Stack for 2025 and Beyond — that unpacked how gym, clubs, and other fitness businesses can evolve and expand tech to drive revenue. Expert panelists took a deep dive into how wearables and AI are transforming member experiences while providing mobile-first strategies to drive ROI for 2025.

Speakers included

  • Mo Iqbal, Chief Strategy Officer, ABC Fitness
  • Kelly Card, Senior Vice President of Product, ABC Fitness
  • John Ford, Chief Product Officer, EGYM
  • Tim Holley, Chief Product Officer, MyFitnessPal

Below are the key takeaways, topics, and strategies discussed for fitness businesses to gain a competitive advantage by incorporating technology.

Use Mobile Applications as A Revenue-Generating Storefront

ABC Fitness Chief Strategy Officer Mo Iqbal highlighted that over 70% of fitness consumers engage via mobile as their first engagement with a fitness club. With a focus on client attraction, fitness businesses should provide a user-centric experience beyond club check-ins on mobile apps.

Aside from client attraction, mobile generates revenue for fitness businesses. Kelly Card of ABC Fitness stated that 60% of in-club purchases happen on mobile applications. She recommended that businesses treat mobile as their second facility. Mobile providing in-club services, billing and payment treatments, and upselling offers generate additional revenue and an enjoyable experience for customers.

“Once they’re using the app to do those things, you have a lot of opportunity to engage with them further, and this presents opportunity to monetize.”

– John Ford, EGYM

Wearables Provide Member Insight and Value

In 2025, fitness businesses should focus on bringing user data into one ecosystem. Industry data is pointing to a trend in tracking fitness milestones, and integrating wearables into the club experience will provide an advantage to those facilities.
The data collected from wearables allows fitness businesses to closely monitor customers’ journeys. This creates an opportunity for fitness businesses to proactively offer solutions that meet customers’ real-time needs.

“In specifics to wearables, we know that what drives value to a member is that consolidated view of the data; so we make it accessible within the mobile application.”

– Kelly Card, ABC Fitness

John Ford of EGYM noted that the club experience must tie into the mobile experience. Ford stated that “we can’t stand alone with a gym app, with third-party direct-to-consumer apps.” Fitness businesses should focus on seamless mobile integrations that directly support customers’ fitness goals.

Wearable Technology Can Add Personalization to Member Journeys

Panelists revealed that over 50% of adults and 65% of Millennials are using wearables, such as Apple Watches and Fitbits – and that the global wearables market is expected to reach $65 billion in 2025. Evidently, these stats suggest that fitness businesses focus on bringing user data into one ecosystem, which the panel also discussed the benefits of.

“A complete picture is fundamental if you want to equip your trainers with a view to what the user is doing, and have them accurately prescribing interventions to users. It’s great for us that it’s so prevalent now for users to have wearables that make it easy for them to provide us a complete picture”

– John Ford, EGYM

Unify The Member Experience

The connection between customers using MyFitnessPal and additional third-party apps to achieve their goals was highlighted by our panelists. To minimize customers’ need for multiple apps and data consolidation, fitness businesses should provide integrations like those between ABC Fitness, MyFitnessPal, and EGYM. By doing so, users will have a more cohesive, personalized in-app experience.

“It’s something that our customers really value. Given that one of our jobs is to understand their needs, meet them, and exceed them in delightful ways – it’s important for us.”

– Tim Holley, MyFitnessPal
